Diffusing the Myth

Doc Warner diffuses the major myths
and concerns about chiropractic care.

MYTH:  The cracking noise that an adjustment makes is the sound of bone on bone, and that's bad for your body.
DOC:  There are many theories regarding this popping sound. The noise that is heard during an adjustment can be illustrated best by the suction that's created between a saucer that has liquid on it and lifting the cup off, which causes separation and a "popping" sound as it disengages. The joints in the spinal regions are encapsulated in fluid, so the movement of the joints within the capsule creates this phenomenon.  This adjustment or realignment of the joints of the spinal regions help prevent early degeneration, and helps maintain the proper range of motion of the spine, allowing us to enjoy all the physical activities we want to pursue.

MYTH:  Chiropractic hurts!  It's also really dangerous.
DOC: I have been in practice since 1987, treated the youngest (an infant) and the eldest (a 102 year old woman) and every age group in between, and can honestly say they have all enjoyed their treatments and have not suffered. Chiropractic adjustments are welcomed by the body, allowing muscles that have been guarded to relax, and inflamed joints causing nerve interruption to function as they are intended.

MYTH:  I don't need chiropractic, I live a healthy lifestyle and go to the doctor regularly.
DOC:  Many of the common ailments that people suffer from include back pain, neck pain, headaches, and muscle pain, and unfortunately, many people seek Western medicine to cure these disorders.  Western medicine has its place, primarily for chemical problems, but the cause of these common ailments stems from a mechanical misalignment.  Getting prescription drugs to treat these problems will only placate the body, but won't allow the body to restore to its natural, healthy order.  When a mechanical problem arises, chiropractic is the natural choice; therefore, "going to the doctor" for EVERY symptom doesn't equate to automatic health.

MYTH:  Once I go to a chiropractor, I'll ALWAYS have to go to one!
DOC: I have asked my patients to answer this question. They have all responded by stating that once they discovered chiropractic as a option to their injuries or conditions, they all now consider chiropractic as a viable option for health care.  Once they gained the knowledge that adjustments remove nerve interference and allow natural healing to occur, they realized chiropractic could safely restore the body's natural function.  "Always having to go" equates to "always allowing the body to function at it's optimal level", which ALL my patients agreed was worthwhile and not an inconvenience.

MYTH:  I don't need to visit a chiropractor that often; one visit should be enough to cure me.
DOC:  All patients are treated individually, case-by-case.  Some come to the office with conditions that have troubled them for years without knowing a alternative treatment. These patients are put on treatment plans to resolve the existing condition. Patients with conditions that are acute in onset or have maintained good spinal health may only require a single treatment.
